Q: How Durable Are Porcelain Veneers?
Porcelain will last longer than any other type of veneer, so you can rest assured knowing that we are using only the best materials for your smile. Where resin-based veneers may only last 5-7 years, our porcelain veneers are known to last for 10-20 years — with good maintenance on your end.
Q: Do Veneers Cause Tooth Sensitivity or Pain?
Veneers can sometimes lead to tooth sensitivity or discomfort (but it’s not a given for everyone). We remove a small amount of enamel from your tooth before we place veneers which is essential for ensuring the veneers fit snugly and look natural. This can, however, expose the underlying dentin that can be more sensitive to temperature changes – like when you sip hot coffee or enjoy an ice cream.
Some patients experience a bit of sensitivity right after getting veneers but this usually fades over a few days. If the enamel is removed too aggressively or if the veneers aren’t fitted carefully, there might be ongoing sensitivity or even pain. That said, a skilled cosmetic dentist like Dr. Trembath will take care to remove only the necessary amount of enamel and will check the fit of your veneers to minimize any discomfort.
Composite Bonding
Composite bonding (or tooth bonding) is an alternative to porcelain veneers that can fix chipped, cracked, discolored, or misaligned teeth.
We use a teeth bonding liquid that can be sculpted into your desired shape and mimic the appearance of a perfect, natural tooth.
